now in full hd

so maybe buying an ultra laptop is not the way to go. the specs i listed are already packed in at least one product series, except for the price tag, of course. i don’t see it coming down to 50% in just a couple of months so my way to go about an update was to first buy an external monitor, which i’m now using as primary with my laptop. this is an lg flatron w2261vp, full hd, with one of the best subjective image quality around the stores, nice reviews along the web, and just a minor leakage at the sides, instead of below, like most. at the stores i was too impressed with the quality of some other appliances: i might buy two asus eee computers sometime in the future. one for the room, another for the road. :)

toilets and other platforms

i think it’s funny that most people think they should be worried after watching this. so what is the problem with privacy? we’re all entitled to it; we have rights over it; the right to ignore it, if that suits us!

deti student seeking

as my a8js’ backlight dims i’m officially seeking a new laptop still buying this year. top considerations:

everything else is relevant, but not major. welcome things like apple mbp’s unibody, 7 hour battery, light sensors, illuminated keyboard…

the revolution that is

among all the big companies i always stood by google. it was, is, and always will be the best search engine available. by the turn of the decade, though, google will be much more than that, for the common citizen. (already is, for techies).

all the way from the beginning i was amazed about their policies regarding benefits for employers and their concern for the environment and society in general. despite some quirks i think google occupies well its place among responsible enterprise, especially given their respect for competition.

i tried, i trully did!

yesterday i installed gnome after maybe a year of using dwm. it might sound strange, but i took some time to configure some stuff and after i thought i was done more stuff had to be done. as soon as i opened firefox i felt that something was wrong, i think it was the fact that my effective area of screen went from a relation of 16:10 to 16:9. i really noticed the difference and of course i could automatically hide bars, but that’s just stupid. also i cannot effectively manage my open windows and programs. not to mention the loads of processes running that i don’t even know what they are for and what i can do with them. plus, and though i love my (still almost as) new mouse, i prefer not to drift my hands from the keyboard as much as gnome makes me.

i’m sorry everyone, but dwm is not easy nor difficult: it’s simple. and so is arch.

beat and tweet

i have recently become an avid listener to trance and progressive radio shows like a state of trance, trance around the world, global dj broadcast, etc. every week i hear new tracks through these and since the programs are two hours long its really easy to find lovable and ignorable tracks.
i was keeping my mind busy on how to keep track of my favourite tunes, and after some thinking and ignoring the issue i realised that i could finally put some use to my twiiter page, that i created before just to keep my username safe. i actually do that now in websites that might be of use in the future because when i came up with my nickname i was a 12 year old signing yahoo games. at the time my nickname resulted in 0 google results, but now it is all over forums and places i have never visited in my life. so if you want to listen to some really good tunes (or figure out what i define as good tunes) just follow my twitter.

a new rodent for web surfing

it has finally arrived. i waited as long as one month for the microsoft wireless mobile mouse 4000 to hit the stores and, when it finally did, i kind of waited a little bit more to see if it appeared in a store where i could walk to. it didn’t, and during that period i also checked a few other mice that in the meantime might have appeared. logitech’s m305 did but, though 5 euros cheaper, i didn’t like the fact that there was no good information about it on the web. i went to mediamarkt to check out a v220, which seemed to have the same shell, and i didn’t like it. i was afraid that the microsoft’s wouldn’t please me as well. the only problem with that is that shipping costs aren’t refunded when returning items, but it all ended started well.

why i still need the mouse

i was checking the old release pages from mozilla firefox, to check out when i began using firefox, but it looks like the guys at mozilla aren’t too much worried about history and having the old builds in the ftp. anyways, it’s not that important. i remember that i have used firefox before i even switched to linux, and it was around version 0.9, somewhere in 2004. i remember at that time it was a fast browser, far from bloated, and i already had that feeling that microsoft didn’t suit me that well. i used it as my primary option until 2-point-something, but then version 3 disappointed me somehow, or opera just attracted me better. i’m writing this post from opera 10 rc2, but i have been using firefox again since 3.5. and will be.
