now in full hd

so maybe buying an ultra laptop is not the way to go. the specs i listed are already packed in at least one product series, except for the price tag, of course. i don’t see it coming down to 50% in just a couple of months so my way to go about an update was to first buy an external monitor, which i’m now using as primary with my laptop. this is an lg flatron w2261vp, full hd, with one of the best subjective image quality around the stores, nice reviews along the web, and just a minor leakage at the sides, instead of below, like most. at the stores i was too impressed with the quality of some other appliances: i might buy two asus eee computers sometime in the future. one for the room, another for the road. :)

toilets and other platforms

i think it’s funny that most people think they should be worried after watching this. so what is the problem with privacy? we’re all entitled to it; we have rights over it; the right to ignore it, if that suits us!

an education

as semesters go by, experiences shape personality more and more. the exams are done, but research scholarship catch-up is due. apart from a few drops, the winter seems to grow smaller by the day. these will be two weeks to think feel things differently…

the revolution that is

among all the big companies i always stood by google. it was, is, and always will be the best search engine available. by the turn of the decade, though, google will be much more than that, for the common citizen. (already is, for techies).

all the way from the beginning i was amazed about their policies regarding benefits for employers and their concern for the environment and society in general. despite some quirks i think google occupies well its place among responsible enterprise, especially given their respect for competition.

predictably fond of profit from an irrational system

dan ariely is a great professor, studier of behavioral economics. he is genius enough to point out why there is no equilibrium in the free market, how and why the capital holds all the variables (read predictably irrational and this long boring article, on an almost unrelated view about upcoming events), but set off to fight it (or join it, i’m not sure) with the wrong tools. instead of making people aware of it and force a change to a fair system he teaches them how to live with it. still i’m sad i can’t be in lisbon tomorrow for his presentation…

artificially raw

i really love to have come across this comic today since i have been thinking for a few years now that, despite the fact that we transform the planet in ways that makes groups of people worry about our future and our environment, it is necessarily true that transformation is in our nature, thus making our destruction a natural part of life. george carlin had a similar thought on it, too.

this is more than a comic or a simple joke, it’s more about philosophy, and though i believe its sense that doesn’t mean that’s the direction i want the human race to evolve to.

edit:
that direction is just being discussed.

i tried, i trully did!

yesterday i installed gnome after maybe a year of using dwm. it might sound strange, but i took some time to configure some stuff and after i thought i was done more stuff had to be done. as soon as i opened firefox i felt that something was wrong, i think it was the fact that my effective area of screen went from a relation of 16:10 to 16:9. i really noticed the difference and of course i could automatically hide bars, but that’s just stupid. also i cannot effectively manage my open windows and programs. not to mention the loads of processes running that i don’t even know what they are for and what i can do with them. plus, and though i love my (still almost as) new mouse, i prefer not to drift my hands from the keyboard as much as gnome makes me.

i’m sorry everyone, but dwm is not easy nor difficult: it’s simple. and so is arch.
