i have always been amazed by the power of each and every single person’s brain. some state that we usually squeeze a mere 10% of its capacity. i partly believe this. some accidents and misfortunes cause people to become absolute geniuses, so who is to say that a broken computer is supposed to work faster than a mint one? also don’t take this the sexist way, but apart from susan polgar, whose brain was molded as a child, forcing her embedded face recognition system to play chess like, let us say, not kasparov or karpov, i have never seen a brilliant-minded girl.
a few weeks ago i was watching a show on public television about a brilliant boy, who wasn’t even that great, and also not humble, which is a quality that i require from any person if simpathy and appeal are to be met. anyways, it was not only until later that i realised she wasn’t a boy. it was a girl, with very manly looks, at age 12! so this kind of reinstates my surprise towards the question…
but to stay on topic, i find it curious as well the fact that we have a dominant hand, for example. why should it be like that? why should my left hand be so incapable if it is pyisically identical to my right one, even though i played the piano and was actually pretty good at it? this sort of questions, along with some inspiration from a new idol, keeps my mind really busy, pleading to solve these questions, and reminding me that computers are just a tool. i don’t like computers, i just happen to deal with them quite good! my university course is just a hobby, my real passion is laying in the lawn and wish to understand all of this, like no one has before.
of course that’s not going to happen, but i still like to lay on the lawn, so i’ll keep doing it, but this is the report of my first day trying to free my left hand from the chains. i’m doing it first because i think it’s stupid not being able to do simple stuff with one hand and second because it’s healthy brain exercisve. i have been using the mouse on my left hand since today, and actually notice some improvement. i managed to correctly wash my teeth with it, remembering it was quite a weird task a few weeks ago when i first tried it. i have been playing some flash point and shoot games with my left hand and i’m almost as bad as with my right hand, so i feel this is working. my goal is to become ambidextrous, so i’ll start pushing a pen with the left tomorrow, or the day after that.
